"The Turba Philosophorum" (Assembly of the Alchemical Philosophers), is thought to date from the twelfth century, and is one of the earliest known Latin alchemical texts. It became one of the best known works in the alchemical lexicon, and is often quoted in later writings. Waite's translation remains one of the most comprehensive: Writing of the text in his autobiography, Waite observed "It was translated and annotated by myself using two recensions which are both well known to Hermeticists" - in other words it contains both the major versions of the work, probably drawn from Manget's "Bibliotheca Chemica Curiosa" (1702). This edition presents Waite's 1896 edition with stunning layout and typography.
